My first community gathering in Korea

Finding an Indian is difficult in Incheon and finding a fellow ‘bong’, or a Bengali is even more difficult, although you can spot a few Bangladeshis. so the only means of communication in my mother tongue so far was with my husband and sometimes over the phone with my parents and in-laws back in Kolkata.  On the 15th of November, our tiny dream came true when we participated in the Bengali Community gathering in Seoul. We met around 50 other fellow bongs based in different locations in Korea. It was an amazing party and we tasted Indian food and music after a long time.
My point is, if we are based outside our hometown, it is very important to find people who at least speak the same language as we do. Based in a country like Korea, where most of the population is trying hard to communicate and comprehend in English, I have always had a language barrier in finding a local friend here. Therefore a gathering of the community which we belong to is very very important sometimes to get to know the place better.  Bengali Association Korea has done that for me. I really want to know how the other foreigners here feel about it.

My inspiration for this blog...

I had never seen myself as a homemaker, but here I am sitting in a foreign land at a rented residence all by myself and finding a hobby. I have a few academic accolades that are good enough for me to find a job in Korea, but my career goals have made me wait for the spring semester to start a PhD. I watch movies, play silly games, go for aimless walks in the afternoon as a measure to ‘kill time’ while waiting for my husband to come back from work. Therefore with a strong will to write down my experiences and share them with the world, I started writing this blog. As a Kid and a teenager, I used to keep a journal, but that hobby slowly evaporated as I grew up and got busy in the pursuit of a career. But when my career said that it had to wait for some time, then I am happy to write again, only this time on the internet.
